ABOUT US

Richmond Caledonian Society was founded in 1937 (we celebrated our 70th anniversary with a ball in October 2007) to act as a focal point for the many Scots moving into the Richmond area. It was centered on the Presbyterian Church on Richmond Green, and offered various activities connected with Scotland, including ceilidhs, theatre visits, commemorative events and, of course, Highland and Scottish Country dancing.  We now meet in the Oddfellows Hall, Parkshot, on Wednesday evenings from September to June to enjoy our dancing.

During the season we have two or three special events, such as the RSCDS demonstration in March with buffet supper and dancing. This is a very popular evening and is open to anyone who’d like to attend.  Our main social event is a Burns supper held in St Mary’s Parish Hall in Teddington, with traditional food and speeches, and a programme which includes dances suitable for non-dancing guests to enjoy, to the music of a live band. The date for 2009 is Saturday 17th January.

We are delighted to welcome newcomers of all abilities, and can offer basic tuition to complete beginners. So do come and join us:  Scottish country dancing is a wonderful way to have fun, keep fit, make friends and take your mind off your worries!
